OK ... I need your help.

"In the begining ...... I had one frog who took up residence under my bedroom window. He/She was a great annoyance, BUT I could cope with knowing a frog living under my window meant my garden was healthy and thriving for the environment at large.

I think it was a 'girl' frog, cause it was joined in song by another ............

....... now (in a matter of weeks) there is a WHOLE FOOKIN' COMMUNITY of darling frogs.!!!!!!

It was easy in the early times .. *hand to forehead in the manner of the elderly relating a story to the young* .. cause the weather was warm, and I could turn on the aircon to drown out the noise ........

now the weather is cold ...............

HELP!! they are keeping me awake at night !!!

maybe i forgot to mention ... the frogs 'talk' to one another from 6pm to 7am ever day !!!!!

Maybe if you put a loudspeaker under there with the sound of barking dogs or meowing cats, the threatened amphibians would vacate. Of course then all the neighborhood pets might take up residence there...hmmm...okay, strike that idea...never mind *S*

Hope they ain't the dreaded "Cane Toads",Lacie, have they spread down that way yet?*BG* ....see, some Norte Americanos do know something about Oz!*Smarmy Grin*....thinkin' about your prob....don't send the cat down after them yet.....

First, get a 16 ounce hammer, take it out there while they're making that noise, when you see one, hit it smartly and swiftly with the head of the hammer until dispatched. Repeat as necessary...

How cold is it? Those frogs should be seeking a place to hibernate if it's cold enough. They probably make good bait for the fishies.

I hear they taste just like chicken *G*

hammers, hybernation, entree's ..... come on!! I really need help here!!

Mac, it is coming on winter, and the night time temps have been as low as 5C, but the average right now is about 10C. As far as I can make out, these frogs will be around for the whole of winter!!!!!!!!!!!!

These frogs make a "wooop" "wooop" sound and from what I can gather so far, they are ones that bury themselves in the ground to keep warm and hide from me (without a hammer). (do you know, there are frogs that sound like ducks?? Honest!!)

I am waiting on a call from the curator of the Amphibian and Repitle department of the West Australian Museum (who also run a "Frog Watch" program sponsored by the company I work for) looking for suggestions.

I KNOW frogs are indicative of a healthy environment .... BUT .. I am not a pleasant Mommy (shades of "Mommy Dearest" *L*) or work mate when I am sleep deprived!!

.........so, any info you have on "silencing the amphibians" would be appreciated.

p.s. Jumm, there are no reports of Cane Toads in West Aus as yet, though they have infiltrated somewhat into NSW. Remind me to tell you about them from our days in Queensland one time. *grin*

double glazing*s*
Feels for lacie, we have them too but they dont live under my window. The only suggestion I have is to clear out the vegetation from under the window so that it isnt a moist environment.
Make a frog pond elsewhere in the back garden...at the back fence or the fence near a neighbour you dont like *g*
Good luck with the museum!

oh lacie! it's simple!!! You show them the fryin' pan!!! *LOL* You could sprinkle salt on them and hope they melt-*yuck* or-get the shotgun out!

Were I not living in the state of *Wedded Bliss*
(remote, unknown region near Inuvik) I would darn sure be llookin' for a way to line the little
croakers up and start kissin' em!!!!!

A veritable harem(en) of princes WOW!

Seriously (as if) lacie - have you tried either
moth balls or aromatic cedar?

Frogs???? We haven't seen frogs here in years. You do have quite a problem.....I must tell my son about this one; it would make a great story. He is a writer and loves horror and sci-fi......I'm sure he would make a good one out of this....the attack of the killer frogs....... *s*

Sure hope you get this little problem taken care of real soon.....ribbet, ribbet....croak, croak....

And, Lacie, just be glad you don't have to deal with cicadas too...we have those here in Tennessee...loud little buggers they are, unless you're inside, with the windows closed against the encroaching Southern summer heat and mugginess.

Cicadas abound here in the warmer months, Cbleidd.

So far, I have discovered the frogs under my window are probably "Motorbike Frogs" .... unfortunately, this discovery doesn't keep them quiet *sigh*

great pic, Jumm Jumm .. is that you before your wife kissed you? *grin*

OK, well, shows t' go ya... :) Obviously, Lace, I've never been to Australia...ah, but do you have annoying neighbors who work on their hot rod cars at all hours, or drive by in their boom-box cars at all hours? (Neither do I, actually, since I live in a fairly civilized neighborhood.)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Lacie on Friday, May 5, 2000 - 10:52 am:

Nope, Cbleidd, no neighbours like that. BUT we may be the neighbours from hell ourselves *grin*. Three sons who play guitars and drums, ride skate boards as transport and fun, have 3 mates each who think they live here .. oh, and don't forget the hysterical, screaming Mother !! *L*

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Mcguire on Friday, May 5, 2000 - 11:24 pm:

Okay lacie. I got this from one of the local witches *L*
Get some human hair and bind it with string, then hang it under your window. Don't know if this will work, but this old woman swore to me it would. What have you got to lose except more sleep?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Lacie on Saturday, May 6, 2000 - 01:55 am:

I am prepared to give it a shot, Mac. Lets hope there are no side effects !!

........... stay tuned.

3 sons who play guitars and drums...hmmm...Silverchair? Nawwww... :)
Sounds like you have quite the houseful, Lace; room for one more? :) (Yeah, like I could really afford to move to Australia; would sure be a change, though. Wonder if there's much demand for [relatively] young computer techs in Oz...)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Lacie on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 - 04:06 pm:

Nawwwwwwwwwwwwww:) ... Not Silverchair ..trust me! *L*

Always a houseful, Cbleidd, and always room for one more ... UNLESS it is another noisy 'would be musician!!' LMAO.

As far as the (relative) demand for IT and IS people in AUS .. it is high. Email me if you are serious and I will try to put you in touch in the right areas.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Lacie on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 - 04:11 pm:

..p.s. .... the lock of hair didn't work ... which, I guess, is why I am typing at 11.10pm ........*L*

all other suggestions welcomed!!

Hair didn't work? Try this one....
Have a big, ugly-looking bald guy stand at the window!!!

It seems to work at our house....no frogs around for miles (or kilometres) *big silly grin*

Get yourself a white noise machine. You better rely on those Aussie amphibian experts instead of us Amerikans. We don't know croak about Aussie frogs...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Cbleidd on Thursday, May 11, 2000 - 08:53 am:

Another "would-be" musician...well, yes, but mainly acoustic, so not especially noisy. As far as going where the jobs are, I'll certainly consider it. (Have even checked the job market in Ireland, though it looks like they need folks with far more qualifications than I have at the moment. Think I may just bite the bullet and pay for the A+ and MCSE certification tests myself!)
So your sons aren't Pearl Jam wannabes like Silverchair, Lace? :) Seems to me that Silverchair's first record was called "Frogstomp." Something I know you're considering right about now... >:)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Lacie on Thursday, May 11, 2000 - 03:40 pm:

ROTFLMAO .... hmmm one of our old aussie Tir regs (but a young fella himself) use to be in a back-up band for Silverchair .. maybe I can get them to come and perform on my front lawn *L*

Sounds like your squeeking out on a trip to Aus, Cbleidd *smile*. The latest figures show a 10% deficit in employable people for the available IT and IS positions.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Cbleidd on Friday, May 12, 2000 - 09:29 am:

Well, then, Lace, E-mail me the pertinent info and I'll get my C.V. printed up and send it off to whomever could most use a qualified surface-mount soldering tech, how 'bout it? :) I've got the experience, and I'm wasting it on customer service right now...

sure .. I will try and search out some sites this afternoon for you. A pretty cosy weekend planned here, so I should get some 'puter time in. Stay tuned!! *s*

Aus is a big place, Cbleidd .. if you misplaced a lady here, it could be dificult to find her. *smile* .... nice lyrics, though.

We have frogs too. But we love having them, they are music to our ears. Deafening music, but still music. I look on it as a shift of perspective. Like, I don't mind my husband's snoring, because it lets me know he is there, sleeping beside me.

THE FROGS HAVE HATCHED (is that what frogs do?)

Now they make this squeeling noise when they are being ... ummmm ... investigated by our cat and dogs. Sons number 2 & 3 race out into the garden to rescue the baby frogs and put them out the front of our house so they are safe ... and where they can then breed next autmun!!! *grrrrrrrr*

As said sons have been away from home on holiday, I was left the task of 'Chief Frog Rescuer'. Now, there is something which may bring a smile to a few dials *L*
