I believe our guest might need to read a few more issues of super sleuth of the month, before revisiting. Matter not it does where the ISP is from that Alia Information Systems Uses, simply put, it can be from anywhere in the World. But if you want to send snail mail to Alia, you send it to:
Alia Information Systems
Cuskinny,
Cobh ,
Co. Cork ,
Ireland
BTW, I make a living out of tracking folks down through cyber-space.

If you thought it was "to each his own" Mstree, then WHY did you post it here?!
By Rogue on Tuesday, November 28, 2000 - 10:47 am:
You are quite correct, Cuch...also our supersleuth guest should read what it says on the IE Domain Registry at http://www.domainregistry.ie/search/whois.html. I quote...
" The IEDR has been advised that it must comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1988 and that the making available of information regarding IE domain registrations and associated contact persons by means of a WHOIS service could be in breach of that Act as it may constitute an unauthorised disclosure of personal data.
The IEDR has also been advised that Ireland is required to implement the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive which will make the existing Data Protection requirements more specific and explicit. The IEDR will review the issue of making available information regarding IE domain registrations and whether this can be done in a manner that does not infringe Irish Data Protection Legislation as soon as the Irish implementing legislation has been published.
Until that time, queries should be directed, by email, to hostmaster@domainregistry.ie.

which means they ain't gonna tell you, bonehead. Educate your mind, before you flap the jaw.
BTW, I make my living by tracking also, I'm the CEO of an international computer security firm and we just love site hijackers...*smile*...better hope you have your mind right.

Well begosh and begorrah to be sure (and other exclamations designed to fool the word (de worild) that I'm living on the sea shore of Ireland (Oirlind).
The only thing (ting) phoney here is the ting dat I do be after using for to be after talkin to people who an awful long way away (so far away dat you'd be after gettin an awful sore throat from the shoutin)
The web server is in California (in one of Verio's physical locations)
The webmaster (moi!) could be anywhere in the universe with a connection to the Net.
*sips from his saucer of milk*
It's sad that someone able to work out where a web site is hosted (not a particularly difficult thing to do) is apparently unable to read and understand the meaning of the content of that website, nor to understand the nature of the web.
For slow readers:
http://www.alia.ie/ is indeed the 'home page'.
It does not mention cottages.
It does mention the fact the the company is in Ireland.
http://www.alia.ie/tirnanog/ is the main door of 'The Tír'
This leads on to http://www.alia.ie/tirnanog/cafe.html, which mentions "old stone cottage" - *looks up from screen and contemplates the stone walls* - without a word of a lie. It also mentions "the shores of Cork Harbour in Ireland" - and begobs and bejaysus, if I look out of the window (de winda), the harbour is still there.
It does not use the word "little" in relation to said cottage. Nor does it attribute any particular width or length to the telephone line.
*licks droplets of milk from his lips*
LOL !!!!!
Thank you for winding us up 'guest'
On a techie note, for Rogue, Cuch and others interested in domain registrations.
The IEDR runs an email discussion forum (it's referenced on the site). Many of us Irish webmasters have been using the forum to make the point to the IEDR that the Data Protection Act applies to persons only, and not to companies/organisations.
We've also shared our thoughts on other aspects of the registry policies. :)
Interested net-heads could sign up and then look at the web-based list archives. We have had some real dingdongs going. Worse than a late-night pub!
There are independent moves afoot to make .ie domain ownership more transparent.
Incidentally, the IEDR will actually email you back details of domain registrations. They seem to be under the impression that the DPA precludes only on-line disclosure. I think that they have a copy of the ACT that came from a different planet. All that guff about "may constitute" (as quoted by Rogue) is just very defensive lawyer-speak.

*pouting* So there! *stamps foot in petulant manner then turns on heel to follow Acc back into the (rather spacious really) stone cottage ringlets bouncing* *S*

*pats accasbel on the back* .. you do a fine impersonation of an Irish Accent, man!! *s*

So what you're suggesting, Acc, is that you're NOT REALLY ANYWHERE??? Has any one ever SEEN Accasbel? Maybe he's faerie/alien/from COrk. !!!! Or even... in Tir na nOg...
As a complete non-techie I've found this a really interesting board. I guess THAT explains why so many people all over the world have "geocities" in their website addresses *pretends to be blonde and fluffy*
For those of you who would know, where is geocities anyway?
Incidentally... you might not want to know this, but "techie" (spelt differently obviously) is Maori for a certain bit of female anatomy. So if you shout "Oi! Techie!" at someone in a pub, be aware what you're saying... *lol*
