Acc, was talking about Tir with McGuire today and the question came up: Who are/were the original Tir chat regulars? Any still about? How old is this chatroom, and how has it changed/grown over the years?
Perhaps we should have on this page a Virtual History of Tir, just for the record ;)

Let's see. I've been coming into Tir for about four and half years. And if I remember correctly, the wenches, Fionn and the Lad were part of the chat group that I joined. There was also Cleo, Blue Lady, Pegs, and Tec. That's about all my memory can bring up at the moment. :o)

I can't believe that I forgot Lacie. She was around then as well.

Tec, Barrabas, Wolfie, kilgore.......

I first came here around August maybe September of 1997. There was that manufacturing dude from Nova Scotia... What the heck was his name, Mick do you remember? And that couple from Texas the husband was cool and the wife was a great story teller. I got into a first class blow out with her!! Anyway's they were a small handful I remember like Colleen, Tecumseh, Mick.... within a few short months of then, people like Wunda, Caoilte, Meiricanich, Pegs came in? Anyway in early to mid 1998 a fall out from Paddy brought people like Typan, Cleo & Lacie and really livened the place up. Considering my old age, I may be off a wee bit but that is how I best remember things. I think Tec & Colleen were here before me.

BLUE LADY?? Jaysus I haven't thought of her in years!! Dayzy too came around mid 1998 as I met her in a different chat room and brought her in. I think the first Tir Gathering that Cleo and I ran in the summer of 1998 would tell who was around back then. MAX, was here.... he was a gass! Tsionna was one of the first people around then too but she used a different name way back. CLEO, why don't we plan another Tir Gathering? Kingston II ??? C'mon love.... whatta ys say?

What about Roisin Dubh? She was banned by the time I got here at the end of 97

And what about Mrogh?

Mac, I think that was the end of 1998 not 97. But that really weird guy, the Psycho Corrections Officer from Rhode Island was here back in 98 too. What was his name? Sham, Shammy..... Sammy ?? *tries to recollect if he was a black man or not* Rock? SHAMROCK!!! Yeah that's it. Shamrock was back here. I think the best person to defer to is Accasbel. Was Accasbel here back in 1997? *winks* Accasbel, who was here before Colleen, Tec and I? Let's think..... who else can I remember.... Red Green, Finn (a different guy), Moe Larry & Curly, my fav pals Groucho & Harpo.....

Quill was the name of the wife, i've forgotten her husband but she seemed to think i was trying to poach the man, there was Pixi and of course me in 98 i think thats when i showed up, um, i thinkoh lord now my minds gone blank

Q4 of '97 Tec introduced Pegs and me to Tir, I think. Caoilte will remember for sure. My first time here was a scream!! I had not experience this kind of chat before and had all sorts of bother coming to terms with 'refresh' and 'reload'. Cao, Tec, Mick the Lad and Blue Lady were in the Inn on my first visit.

Tecumseh was sure I would be banned, I think .. for saying something like "bloody hell" in frustration and my old 486 continually booting me out.... and using something similar *s* the first time WE DON'T ALWAYS SMELL THIS WAY MA'AM popped on the screen as if from my keyboard!! I seem to remember Tec posting things like "lacie, behave!" quite alot. (how silly of him, really! I am always good!!)

Mrogh and her brother in-law (the tree man) .. what a hoot that story is! Dazy and her dust ... Cao's gentle ways ... remember Trav only use to sing when he first visited?? ... Quill's stories (was talking to Mac about them the other day - the links no longer work) .. Deade's theatrical tendancies ... JW's dry wit ... RedGreen's ferrets and facination for guns. The list goes on and on ...

My first encounter I remember was with Mick...you're such a sweetie and then Fionn darlin'...Blue Lady and Caoilte...such fun times.
I missed the gathering but darn Fionn why didn't we go for the big one at the farm before the move...darn, darn, darn...Raheny and Greymyst came along then..this place is always home for me. Don't get here as often anymore but always a welcome is waiting....Here's to good friends!!!

I remember coming upon a 'conversation' fairly early in the history.
tSionna and Colleen were being hit on by some less than mature bloke. He seemed to be having difficulty with the concept of being outsmarted in words by two (three? was Wunda there too?) females.
It had got to the stage where tSionna had called him "an idiot".
So he made some remark - maybe referring to his third leg (but in coarser terms).
So tSionna *drew her sword* and *took a swipe".
Then she informed him that he was "a dickless idiot".

For me, that was the night that the wenches became the Wenches. :)

It's about time I cleared it down and restarted. THere are too many ghosts there.

There were two Roisin's.
The SA one did indeed get banned. The only one to achieve that distinction.
The CA one (who brought along a friend named Dead Pixie) wrote some stories on the board. My favourite was "Acc's Back Room" - not because of the 'Acc', but because of the imagination. Quill and a few others joined in with that one.

The Bubble and OZ were two long running saga's on the board.

I don't recall when MCGuire first arrived in Tir,,but he was a great addition to the Tir family.I remember a night with Mac and Cao,,laughing so hard as I came in with news handles,,,,monkeyinabarrel and then ladyonaflyingtrapeze,,,with everyone joinng in the antics.
Then along came SeamusMcCool,,,hey where have you been hiding my friend?
I introduced Shen to Tir and though he may not be about often I know he always enjoyed the shennanigans in here.
Ghost floated in one afternoon and haunts Tir now and again.
Bucksull was a sunday afternoon regular for a while.Chani and I had many a good chat with this most humourous personage.
We need a family reunion we do, to flood the chatroom with do you remember when....and what are you doing these days..do you think we can work a time and date for a catch up chat?

I remember Mac's first vist.

I just enjoyed a conversation with Cleo - we were doing 'more remembering'. The fabric of Tir is a very unique pattern of hotch potch and artistry. We must all be careful not to pull the loose thread .....

Okay, let me just corroborate the above-referenced dates and times a bit.... being of Veteran status meself...

I wandered into Tir in early Fall of 1997. My first encounters were with Mick *huge grin* and Lady Quill and her husband Deaide and then Colleen (who I will not refer to as Colleenie Weenie in this moment of seriousness... *ahem*)

And then I remember tSionna in a grand entrance (something to do with Anvil Dropping on another's wee head)..... Sheesh she half scared me out of my wits. I remember being wallpaper watching her and Colleen in their wenchly banter and sort of meekly stepping in with wit and the subject of "wench" came up. After that conversation, we somehow claimed "royal rights to wenchdom." That's another historial/hysterical Tolstoy edition in and of itself. (Oh yeah, by the way... having met tSionna personally... well, she's a very petite, adorably cute Nicole Kidman looking, kind-hearted lady. Go figure.)

ICQ was introduced to my computer that same year. ICQ is to my computer (and probably most of you) as the sun is to the earth.

I can tell you all that at this moment, Colleen more than likely still possesses her original lists of original Tir na nOggians complete with I.P. numbers. For a price of course.

Newbie, or Oldbie .. we are each a thread in the Fabric of Tir (had to get the thread bit in again *smirk*). Ludd, each 'newbie' is, potentially, a very important 'regular' .. and if they don't develop to that potential, then they at least leave a stain on the carpet.

I've been visiting this site, for about 3 years. The only chat site I visit actually. The first year, I kept the page open at the bank. For to meet the people of Tir, and gladly making 'links' between those who pass, since I try to carry on a chat till the next comer, and we turn to be 3 and sometimes 4(don't wanna hear any comments on how I still work there!!!). I've had the chance to meet so many of you, miss a lot those I like so much and stopped showing up(like LadyQ3 and QBreeze), and consider some as neighbours. Thank you Accasbel for this site, 'bless you mate.

LADIES ??? Not to change the subject but what is the appropriate amount of "woman time" for the shower? The Li'l lady in our house thinks a full 1/2 hour is appropriate. Any suggestions?

That IS a most definite change of subject, Fionn - no two ways about it.

It is my experience that boys spend more time in the shower (those that are not alergic to water, that is) than girls .. and there is NO appropriate length of time. If they are short, we say they haven't done a good job, if they are longer in there, we say they are wasting water and using other people's time.

They cant win.

i'm glad i'm not that audatious, i've met the lovely lady in a fine fit of rage over someone bathing in her vat. speaking no nme and spilling no secrets. but i do beleive she cleaned out that vat. scrubbed it. sterilized it and only after the fifth washing did she refill it with the tir's finest. and fionn, why didn't you use the drainage plug in the bottem, much easier and she doesn't knotice when you... opps

A bit inflammatory maybe, Wun??? .. perhaps more like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"?

Some of the most memorable "Characters" in Tir for me, have not necessarily been the 'high use' visitors. Being of a very different Time Zone than most of the oldies (as opposed to newbies?), my normal time was often quiet, to understate the obvious. Shae, Rodac and Bronte certainly brightened my day!! (Bronte is getting married again, by the way) Then came Sorcha, Leda, Rolan and recently, Indigo. They have all made a big difference to my chat time.

I can't leave off 'John - Ireland calling' !! He came to visit nearly two years ago and will be back to visit again this month, after his travels following the World Cup.

Trav .. well, he is still covered in Dayz's food fight remenents .... *grin*

I'm sorry... did someone say something? I was busy aiming some scud missles at Fionn.

Collane..... In case you haven't heard; SCUD missiles do not work very well. I think you'd be better off using a Fionn Flipping Catapult and I know just the place to buy one. Interested? *LOL*

By the way...... may I poll all yous gals and find out just how long each of you spend in the shower? I think the 1/2 hour is way too long and perhaps a mean average could be used. After running around the tir a few times, i have decided to go for a swim... um which way to the Tripple olympic size pool and the cabana boys?

Anyone up for a margireta.. i am.. and maybe a swim, did i mention a swim, yes i mentioned the half naked cabana boys... did i set up that pool a while ago or just the water park.. am i rambling? yes but that is to be expected.. i have had four mountain dews, two colas, three sprite and orange soda, lots of caramel and... did i mention cabana boys... yes i think i did. yes , yes, maybe a hot chocolate, maybe a margireta, of course if you want me to stop talking you'll just have to smack me across(SMACK!!!!) "Kilgore" became "kilgore trout" when he tried to register the more simple version and found it already gone. Apparently took the 'trout' part of it due to his fondness for trout fishing. Our own Buddhist 'Monk' (among other things) was Kilore. A very interesting character ....

there you go. who else do you read? morgan lewelyn? i just finished mountain of the women by liam clancy. it was really enjoyable. my favorite part is where he hitchhikes home from dublin and has to spend the night in a boarding house that has fleas. the landlady tells him the other boarders are out drinking and btw he has to share his bed. so when the fellow whose bed he's in comes home he goes" goddamit she's done it again, she's sold my bed" then they farted and grunted all night. lol

*cracking up* Went back to the main page of dear ol' Tir (a place I admit, quite shamefaced, that I don't venture to very often anymore), and discovered this great line from Acc: "Read the stories of the cafe regulars (mostly delusional, influenced by earlier delusions/myths)." How well you knew us, before you knew us, Acc. *LLLL* I must admit, I tend to focus on this lovely message board and chat...but there is such a wealth of info in Tir that I heartily remind ALL of us to go back to the beginning and remember why we all love this place.

Hey its been a year and I just re-read this thread. Still we haven't found out the Official Tir Launch Date. We want to have a birthday party but don't know which day it is or how old the baby is! Acc, as the proud papa would you do us the honor of confirming...?

(ok ok, so its been 6 months, not a year) ;)

There never was a 'launch date'.
Tír started off as a design exercise. I was just trying to minimise the graphic load but still give an interesting-looking page. So the 'first' Tir was the logo, the background image and the repeated Celtic knot, with some of my ravings as the text. I put up something like the content of the 'cafe' page.

I think that was in April '96 - but it could have been in '95
Then people found it and started to write to me.
So then I added a few more bits.
And then ....

The reason the Tír still exists is that it was never launched. It doesn't have a business plan or any particular mission.
It just exists. It has its highs and its lows.
These days it's probably medium-ish. :)

AND .. what a design it was, Accasbel. You should give that employee a raise!! ... pay packet, not up the 'ciber' .. or is that now 'cyber'? *L @ self*

Overall I'd say the present format is far superior to the slow old Beseen chat, though the first Tir certainly had its charms. Great remodeling job Acc :)
