Live footage airing on the news (globaltvbc.com) of the live birth of a baby beluga whale at the Vancouver Aquarium. May be links to see it on the news site, the Vancouver Aquaarium in Vancouver Bc. But it is also on Youtube....it was amazing to see i being born and both mum and baby are doing "swimmingly" (sorry!) Both are well.

It's a girl! And she's doing just great! The other whales are being very protective of her and "babysitting" so mum can take breaks. She is so adorable. Even if you are against this type of thing, it is a very special event. And if not for them I would never have encountered Beluga whales because they live in the Arctic or parts of the St. Lawrence seaway in Quebec. There is one particularly cheeky one who swims up to you then "spits" water at you - and he is a dead eye too - always gets you right in the face!
