Part of the Book of Kells, St. Luke's Gospel, will be on display in Canberra, Australia, from about April, 2000, for about three months. Dates have still to be confirmed. It's only the third time in it's known history that the Book has left Irish shores. Once was in the 1950s, when it went to London, England, for conservation, and the second time was to the US, where it visited three cities. The Book of Kells was written in Iona, Scotland, during the 8th century, or even earlier, so it is a prime example of early Celtic Christian devotion and art-work. I encourage any of our Aussie family, those who can, to take the opportunity to see the exhibition.
