I bought a boat called Yknot and it is a stupid name for a boat, but it is unlucky to change the name. SO if the Gaeilge name is better then I will use it Ynot? Thanks

Put 'Grann' before the existing name.
That would give you a really silly name and would do something for your reputation in seafaring circles. :)
You might need a longer hull to explain the pun factor in Irish, so maybe leave well enough alone.
You'll get used to the name. Wear it with pride.

We had a boat at work once called 'The Red Herring.' It sank soon after we gave it to the Boy Scouts.
The call name for the current boat is 'Eolas One,' which causes problems for some of the ex-Royal Navy crew of the rescue helicopter at Shannon.
'Hotel Oscar, Hotel Oscar, Hotel Oscar. ..this is Eolas One, Eolas One, Eolas One!'
'Station calling Hotel Oscar. .. repeat your call sign?'
'Hotel Oscar. . .this is EOLAS ONE!'
'Umm. . .OH!! Eau Lass Won!! What did she win?'
That happened on a rescue exercise! Not the real thing! Our rescue people are as professional and as competent as you can get.
Oh, yeh! If you take the ferry from Doolin to the Aran Islands, chances are you'll be on the 'Happy Hooker!'

The VHF issue is a problem for 'cute' boat names :)
It's a problem for lengthy names as well. "I spell - .........."
Better to use your call sign.
My boat is named Kelpie. Right beside it in the marina is a motor boat with the same name. Forget names over VHF if we both had urgent messages.
More names:
A fellow from around here, who is known to partake of the odd glass, named his boat Aquaholic.

I had a boat named after me once upon a long time ago. It was a speed boat, designed for water skiing. I happened to 'break up' with the owner of this boat, (a particularly handsome Aussie bloke), not long after he made this purchase ..... he named the boat "Hassles". Lovely craft she was ...red in colour. (makes mental note to dig out the pics)
We remained friends, as one does ... and enjoyed many a fine day skiing on the Hawkesbury in Sydney.
